Jan is a native New Yorker who began her career in bodywork studying the Japanese acupressure technique called Shiatsu, before moving to Los Angeles. She worked in the theatre for many years and helped many an actor relax before a performance with her intuitive form of massage and then, later, incorporated Shiatsu. Jan worked as a script supervisor for TV and Film for 18 years. In 1999 Jan began her Lomilomi study in Hawai’i, and in 2002 made the transition to Certified and Licensed Massage Therapist. Jan is a graduate of the Touch Therapy Institute here in Encino, California, and was an instructor for the basic 200-hour program since she graduated in 2002 until 2006. It was then that she began using the spirits of the rainbow rays in her Lomilomi work. Jan came to Touch Therapy having studied traditional, temple style Lomilomi Nui. Before that, she studied Hawaiian Shaman work, including Hawaiian Energy Work, The Philosophy of Huna, Dynamind Techniques and Hula. As part of her traditional training, she just completed in 2007 an intensive two year Traditional Uniki training – a hula and Hawaiian Language training – as part of her healing work. She is now considered a Kumu Hula, a Master Teacher and “Expert” in the field. Hula is an integral part of the healing traditions of Hawai’i and is considered one of their martial arts. Jan teaches Lomilomi with her teacher Susan Floyd on Kauai’i, and was the alaka’i – or assistant – to Karen Carroll, the Lomilomi teacher at Touch Therapy Institute. She assisted and promoted Lomilomi at TTI for 3 years. Jan is also a student of Qi Gong, taught at Touch Therapy Institute.  In 2003, Jan was asked to teach Color Therapy for the Basic Course and last year for the first time, she taught the Master Color Therapy Classes as well. Jan continues to teach the Continuing Education Master Color Therapy classes. Jan is also a Reiki Master Level 3 and incorporates that into her work. She has been a Certified Instructor in the State of California since 2004, loves her work, and loves her students who continue to teach her so much. Jan has a private massage practice and worked as a therapist for Touch Therapy Massage clinic until it closed it’s doors last June. She is very happy to be back in Encino at Essential Chiropractic Center. Her other passion is working in her very busy organic garden along side her husband John, her cat, Spooks, and her dog, Pono.
